Ayurveda has achieved phenomenal recognition and acceptance in the recent years. Scrutiny of various Ayurvedic principles in light of modern principles can unravel hidden physiological concepts in them. For the treatment of various diseases Ayurveda nurtures two notions viz. Sodhana and Shamana. Shodhana therapy is unique therapy which is meant for evacuation of dosha from the body. Kshetrikarana (Panchkarma) is a synonym used in the classical texts of Rasashastra for shodhana therapy. Ancient scholars of Rasashastra always give emphasis on Kshetrikarana therapy especially for Rasayana (Rejuvenation) treatment. Rasayana therapy is successfully achieved with the help of Rasaushadhis (Herbo-mineralo-metallic formulations) after Kshetrikarana process. Rasaushadhis play important role in Ayurvedic therapeutics because of their qualities like Alpamatropayogitvat (low dose), Arucher-aprasangata (good palatability) and Kshipramarogayadayitvat (fast acting). In classics of Rasashastra, Kshetrikarana includes Pachana, Snehan, Swedana, Vaman and Virechana. Without Kshetrikarana, Rasaushadhis did not distribute all over body as a result it will cause complications during Rasayana treatment. So, it is necessary to do Kshetrikarana process in Rasayana treatment with the help of Rasaushadhis.
